Our Drone Training Courses

Remote Pilot Certificate

(RPC) Multirotor and/or Fixed Wing

Your license to the skies starts here.

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Copy of Identity Document
  • Matric Certificate
  • Colour ID photos
  • Valid class 3 Medical
  • Radiotelephony Course and Exam
  • English Language Proficiency (if required)

Theory

  • Air law
  • Meteorology
  • Flight planning
  • Human Factors
  • Navigation
  • Aircraft Technical and General (ATG)
  • Radio Theory

Practical

  • Flight training (multi-rotor and/or fixed-wing drones)
  • Radio telephony practical
  • 4 – 5 weeks depending on each student
  • Operate drones commercially (e.g. for photography, mapping, agriculture, security)
  • Fly in controlled airspace with proper authorisation
  • Apply for advanced ratings like BVLOS
  • Comply with Part 101 of the Civil Aviation Regulations
  • Avoid legal penalties for unauthorised drone use

Beyond Visual Line of Sight

(BVLOS) Endorsement

BVLOS allows drones to fly beyond 500m, enabling long-range missions. This course opens up advanced applications in agriculture, infrastructure inspection, delivery services, security operations and emergency response making your course relevant to more industries.

Drone Fixed Wing Rating Training

Go beyond the basics and master fixed-wing flight.

  • 3 weeks depending on each student

Fixed wing drones are ideal for long-range, high-endurance missions like mapping, surveying, agricultural monitoring, and security surveillance. Adding this rating makes you more versatile and employable across industries.

By completing your Fixed Wing rating, it also opens the doors to fly a VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) drone, which offers a unique blend of flexibility, efficiency, and capability, especially valuable in both training and commercial operations.

Drone Instructor's Rating Training

Unmanned Aircraft Systems Maintenance Technician Training

(UASMT)

(CRM) Training

CRM teaches effective communication, decision-making, and leadership critical for safe and efficient drone operations, especially in multi-crew or BVLOS missions. Most aviation incidents are caused by human factors. CRM helps identify and mitigate these risks through structured teamwork and situational awareness.

Cadet
programme

The cadet programme’s primary purpose is to enable young B-BBEE candidates the opportunity to obtain their Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) and enter the aviation industry. Joining the aviation industry is often a far away dream for many young people however at UDS, we are now making this dream a reality.
